Nitrite Myth #1 – If the nitrite is negative, there is no UTI.

False, nitrite is associated with gram negative infections (like E Coli), but missed gram positives (like Staphylococcus saprophyticus & enterococci)

Nitrite Myth #2 – If the nitrite is positive, there has to be a UTI.

Wrong. False positive can occur, especially with phenazopyridine (aka Pyridium) use.
